SOUTH POWYS SINGLES LEAGUE |
 |
South Powys Singles League
The singles league will start in June and although we plan to have one match a month we will have 2 matches a month for the first 3 months so next year it will start in January and get in line with the County season.
You can play from any venue of your choosing as long as it has a table of a reasonable standard with enough room around the table for the use of a full length cue. It is recommended that you try to get the venue to pay for the games as the home player is responsible for providing the table.
You will have a month to play your match and after it is played both players need to text me the result. If the 2 texts don’t agree I will need to contact the players.
Any results and league tables will be updated on the South Powys County Pool website and also on the South Powys newsletter every month for County A players and print outs for the B team.
Promotion and relegation will again be like County with 2 promoted and 2 relegated from each division. As this is the first season the divisions will be decided by last years stats for the A team and this years stats for the B team as the team has changed so radically.
You will all get enough scorecards for your home matches, fixture list and contact numbers before the season starts in June.
We decided on a scoring system to keep it in line with County. Each match will consist of 18 frames and each frame is worth 2 points adding up to 36. The bonus system is the same as County also with 3 points for an away win, 2 for a home win and 1 for a draw
A deposit of £10 is required to secure your place in the league with the balance (£15 for the Premier Division, £10 for the 1st Division and £5 for the 2nd Division) due by the mid way point of the season which will for this year be the end of August.
Rules
1. In the event of a player not turning up without notification his opponent will receive the highest points on the day in their division including any bonus points.
2. If a player fails to turn up they will be fined £2. If they fail to turn up for 2 matches they will be expelled from the South Powys Singles League. If they wished to join again the following season then they must pay a bond of £10 and would be placed in the bottom division. If they complete their fixtures they will get the bond back at the end of the season.
3. If a player drops out at any stage of the season all points conceded by that player will be deducted from the appropriate teams.
4. If a player cancels the non offending player must give 3 dates to the offending player for the game to be played. If the offending player cannot agree to any of those dates then the highest points, on the scheduled date of the match, will be awarded to the non offending player including bonus points.
5. Cancellations must be made 2 days prior to the match to give sufficient time to change arrangements.
6. You are encouraged to implement the one minute rule to avoid games finishing late.
7. No player shall be more than 1 game in advance of the scheduled date.
8. The result must be text to the fixture secretary by both players. If the results don’t tally then the secretary will contact both players to address the discrepancy.
9. The match will consist of 18 frames with 2 points being awarded per frame.
10. The bonus points system will be,
• 2 Bonus Points for a Home win
• 3 Bonus Points for an Away win
• 1 Bonus Point each in County if the game ends in a draw

Puppy Ladies give Top Guns bone while Dogs ride Ponies home to Shafting House. . |
 |
builth news issue 21
In a re-arranged Wednesday game, the Greyhound Pupps took on the White Hart Top Guns. The Guns have been in excellent form of late winning 6 out of their last 7, but the Pupps ladies in particular have been solid performers this season. The Greyhound team struggled to hold the Guns, but Hayley Simcox & captain Lyn Nott took 3 frames off the visitors to leave the Top Guns 8-3 winners. This capped off a fine week for the White Hart team after they recorded a similar 8-3 scoreline at home to the White Hart Attacks. Lee Jarvis’ team now look odds on favourites to nail down 3rd place.
Up in Howey the Laughing Dogs took on a White Horse team struggling for players, and in the end they also struggled for luck as the Dogs ploughed onto their impressive 19th win of the season, a 9-2 scoreline this time. This leaves the Dogs needing to beat the Shaft Strokers in what should be an epic encounter this week if they are to have any chance of snatching the league title.
In the Fountain the Thong Spotters, full of confidence after 4 straight wins, hosted a 7 Stars Tupp Enders side who seem to be faltering as the season draws to a close. The Tupps have only won 3 out of their last 8, and tonight was not to be their night either, missing out 6-5 to the Thongers after a real tight one, like.
Down in Erwood, the 100 House Inn dropped in on the League leaders. Several tight games were played out, with Stella Price and Dennis Thompson again impressing through solid and big performances. However, old Stroker Wayne Jones proved hotter than the Chili served up at half-time, and the Strokers moved into a 4-1 lead after the 1st session, which proved too much for the Housers to come back from as they slipped to a 9-2 defeat. This week the Strokers travel to Howey where they play the Laughing Dog in what could be a title decider. The Dogs still have long-term injury concerns over Dave Morgan and Paul Finch, both of whom are suffering from ‘over-fatigue’, but the Dog hand a re-call to fit-again Botswanan cueist Munsion Bieva.

Llanbadarn Pool League 2008-2009 Review |
 |
Finals night of the Llanbadarn Pool League was played at The Severn Arms, Penybont on 07/03/2009. Firstly I'd like to thank The Severn for hosting the event and their hospitality.
In the threesomes the first semi final pitted The Sun team of Dean Addison, Craig Davies and Ben Rees against the Penybont B side of Mark Bevan, Phil Ingram and Keith Jones. It was a pretty close affair and a few frames could have gone either way but The Sun booked their place in the final with a 5-3 win. Unfortunately Howard Clements and Justin Bishop didn't show so the Mid Wales B team of Rhydian Davies, Gary Davies and Steve Hughers got a bye through to the final. The final provided a fairly comfortable win for Dean, Craig and Ben as they won 5-2.
In the doubles the first semi final saw Dolfor New Boys Lee Lello and Jake Baylis facing their team mates Ed lewis and Dave Williams. Ed and Dave did little wrong as Lee and Jake played some great pool to clear up in both frames to seal a 2-0 win. In the other semi Roger 'Yogi' Rees and Craig Davies had a bye to the final as Paul Savage and Dave Morgan didn't show up! The final was a long and scrappy affair, Lee and Jake were 2-1 up before Yogi took out a great clearance from the break to send it into a deciding frame. Lee and Jake shaded the decider to win the doubles crown after a nervy final frame.
In the singles Shaun Payne edged out Kevin Morris 2-1, Matt Boore won a close match 2-1 against Gary Bateson, Ed Lewis dispatched Dean Addison 2-0 and Mark Borland beat veteran campaigner Reg Ingram 2-0 despite a scare in the first frame when Reg missed a straight black after a perfect clearance.
The two semi finals couldn't have been much different. The first between Shaun Payne and Matt Boore was a dire affair with neither player playing well, Matt kept it together when in mattered though and sealed his place in the final with a 3-1 win. The other semi final saw Ed Lewis against defending champion Mark Borland. Ed cruised into 2-0 lead with a couple of routine finshes. Suddenly Mark fired into life with a clearance from the break and from Ed's dry break to level at 2-2. Mark went for another finish from the break in the decider but ran out of position to give the chance for Ed who grabbed it with both hands with a clearance for the win.
In the final Ed cruised into a 2-0 lead including a dish from Matt's dry break. Matt dug deep however and despite some audacious swerve shots from Ed to get out of snookers held his nerve to level at 2-2. Ed was not to be denied though as he dished from Matt's dry break and then from his own break to win the match 4-2 and win his fifth singles title in 6 years.
The league was won by Abbey Crunchers in rather controversial fashion as they sat 7 points behind Dolfor New Boys with a game in hand. In that match they faced a Lion Muppets side who struggled for a team and drafted in 2 girls from behind the bar! The Crunchers won comfortably, 9-1 to win the league by 2 points. The postponing of games until after the season has finished will be seriously looked at for next season. Mark Borland won Player of the season only losing 3 games all year.
League Winners - Abbey Crunchers
Runner Up - Dolfor New Boys
Player of the Year - Mark Borland
Most 7 Ballers - Dave Morgan (5)
Singles Winner - Ed Lewis
Runner Up - Matt Boore
Doubles Winners - Lee Lello and Jake Baylis
Runner Up - Roger 'Yogi' Rees and Craig Davies
Threesomes Winners - Dean Addison, Craig Davies and Ben Rees
Runner Up - Rhydian Davies, Steve Hughes and Gary Davies

Tupps come un-stuck against Sticks while Dogs go all out Attack. . . |
 |
ISSUE 19
The 7 Stars in Aberedw saw another fierce encounter between their own 2 teams last week when the Stick Men played the Tupps. Just like the reverse fixture it was a tight affair, and just like last time, it was the Stick Men who held their nerve to notch up a 7-4 win. The Tupps will want to make sure they finish above their younger rivals, but now face a tight finish with their lead cut to just 2 points.
In the Fountain the Thong Spotters registered their 10th win this season. Despite a 36 point advantage at the start of the night, after 10 frames the sides were locked at 5-5, before the 100 Housers, 1 player short, were forced to concede the bonus point.
In Erwood Inn the Shaft Strokers hosted a Bell Enders team who have been experiencing a dip in their usually consistent form of late. Erwood has not been the place for visiting teams to find their form this season, and luck deserted the visitors as they slipped to a 9-2 loss. The Bell Enders lie 9th with a game in hand, and 1 scorcard to come in.
Up in Howey the Laughing dogs closed the gap to just 8 points behind the leaders, after an emphatic 11-0 win over the visiting Hart Attacks. The Dogs will hope to close the gap even further before March 31st, when the top 2 teams meet in the Dog, for what could be a title decider.
In the White Pony the Horses registered their 5th win in 6 matches when they beat local rivals the Fountain A-Team 7-4. The A- Team must quickly ‘get some nuts’ if they are to avoid a bottom 3 finish, while the White Ponies will fancy their chances when the Erwood Shaft Strokers visit this week, aided by Bournemouth professional, Justin Yermouth.
All Pubs have been given Competitions Entry Forms which need to be completed and returned, along with entry fees, to Lee Lello or Sam Machin by March 31st. Good luck, and see you next week.

LAUGHING DOG CUP |
 |
Its time for the 2nd round of the LAUGHING DOG CUP
After the cmen got the first loss of their season last week in the league there may be a swing of trends.
This cup is sponosred by the laughing dog, where you can get great food and great beer (been in the beer guide HUGE number of times)
The draw for the laughing dog cup is
Cmen vs Llanerch A
@
Hampton
Legion vs Middy A
@
ridge
mission impottable 2 vs Loggers
@
Middleton
Middy B vs Monty A
@
Laughing dog
The llanerch will be looking to stop the cmen early in the cup and after the cmen lost last week the llanerch will be looking for any advantage they can.
Middy A will be looking for revenge over the legion after they get drawn against the legion for the again.
After a string of bad results from the mission boys hopefully they can turn things around and take out 2nd in the league, the loggers.
3rd place monty a will be playing middy b, but after a shock win over the cmen last week the monty a will be looking to continue form in the cup
